working hard for Broxtowe

Hello again,
I am sorry not to have been in touch considerably sooner; as you may know I had pneumonia in February and unfortunately it has decided to make a return visit. My thanks to the staff at Glenfield Hospital which specialises in respiratory illnesses. I had to cancel our holiday - but it did mean I was here on Thursday when we learnt that almost a thousand houses are due to be built on our Green Belt by the end of the year! Scroll on for more on that and a number of other matters.
My aim is to do a short email before the commemorations next weekend to mark the beginning of the First World War. In the meantime I have included some events in the diary but please email me with any I have left off!
As ever,
Anna
The campaign to defend our Green Belt and HS2 continues
The Inspector has found in favour of Broxtowe Borough Council's plans to build over three thousands houses on our Green Belt. She found that two sites, Field Farm at Stapleford and the land at Toton (both designated Green Belt) should be developed immediately.
Obviously I am disappointed but not at all surprised - it is worth remembering the Inspector backed the Council's target of 6,150 houses half way through the public inquiry. Mrs Kingaby is also the same Inspector who "advised" Rushcliffe Borough Council to add thousands of houses on Green Belt land to their plans before their public examination had even begun!
The Inspector also supported Broxtowe's plans for the land where the HS2 East Midlands hub is due to be built. These plans include a minimum of 500 houses and a woefully inadequate business park. I take the view that HS2 is about growth (i.e. jobs) not houses and is also about transport connectivity which the Council's plans scupper at Toton.
There is growing evidence that Broxtowe is finding brownfield sites for housing development. It is critical to remember that, for example plans submitted for 285 houses in Beeston Rylands were not in Broxtowe's "Core Strategy" and therefore never considered by the Inspector - there are also plans for more than 100 houses at the White Hills Park Federation; again this is land that was not in Broxtowe's plan. There are other examples of brown field sites ready to deliver new homes - this is where new homes should be built.
It has to be said; there is now widespread concern that Broxtowe Borough Council is failing to redevelop Beeston town centre to take full advantage of the tram. This is the same Council trusted with the plans for HS2 at Toton. As one constituent commented "heaven help us!".
It is deeply regrettable that Labour Councillors and politicians are celebrating their plans to build thousands of houses on Green Belt land whilst claiming they are following Government policy.
On his visit to Kimberley last month, the Prime Minister said brown field land should be developed before Green Belt land. He also explained economic development and transport connectivity are two critical aspects of HS2. As I have said many times there is a clear disconnect between Government policy which is that Green Belt land should not be developed save for exceptional circumstances and the plans being put forward by local Councils and approved by Government Planning Inspectors.
Broxtowe Borough Council has asked us to stop protesting which I think is shorthand for "shut up"! Er no - this is an issue which will not go away and I for one will take this to the very top of Government whatever the consequences.
Please contact me if you want to join the campaign to save our Green Belt and if you want to make sure we make the most of HS2.

Beeston Rylands development
After a meeting with residents on Trent Vale I have written to the developers asking them to meet residents and work more closely with them. There are genuine concerns about the number of houses planned for South Road and the plans for the sports ground.
If you live in the Rylands and want to raise your views with the developers or want more details of what is planned please email me on [email protected]
I had a good meeting with Notts County Council about their plans to allow an Open Cast mine at Shortwood between Trowell and Cossall. My thanks to County Councillor Ken Rigby and Philip Owen who also attended. UK Coal is now in the process of selling off their open cast division. Notts County Council have promised there will be rigorous negotiations with UK Coal to ensure they fulfil all their financial obligations, including a bond to make good the land once the extraction of coal and fire clay has finished.
I was assured that the Planning Committee's decision could be re-visited by the County Council if those negotiations or some other part of the permission was proving unworkable.
Finally, we all agreed to write to the Highways Agency asking them to reconsider the proposal to allow access to the M1 via Trowell services - thereby avoiding the inevitably dreadful and excessive HGV lorry movements up to Nuthall roundabout and on to the M1. I will make similar representations to the relevant Government ministers though I suspect this is a matter which can only be agreed by the Highways Agency.
We were straight on to NET about the appalling traffic chaos earlier this week on University Boulevard / Queens Road. I believe things have improved and of course the schools breaking up will help ease the traffic. New 510 serving Stapleford, Toton and Attenborough
Thank you to everyone in Stapleford who has contacted me about the new 510 which combine the Stapleford Shopper and the Toton Connect. The Stapleford part now excludes much of Brookhill Street and I have written to Notts County Council to ask them to reinstate this part of the route.
I campaigned for the Toton Connect after residents of Lombardy Lodge contacted me. I have also raised concerns about the fate of a number of agency drivers. I will keep you up to date with any developments.
Click here and scroll down for the 510 timetable Kimberley war memorialI met members of Kimberley Town Council last Friday, for a "catch up". There is considerable controversy over some of the Council's spending including the development of the Cemetery Chapel. My main concern is the condition of the War Memorial which I am told requires £100,000 of work. I am more than willing to support any fund raising including applications for public funds. I am bound to say that I hope Kimberley Town Council will make sure it spends tax payers money with caution and public support - after all it's not their money but yours!Broxtowe Country Park
Off road motor bikes have been causing a nuisance again in Nuthall Country Park. My thanks to various local police officers who responded quickly to emails from my office on behalf of a number of residents who have contacted me. I am assured patrols have been increased - it's really important incidents are reported quickly to the police on 101. My advice is to ask that the matter is "flagged" for the local Inspector, beat manager and anti-social team. Please also contact me so I can "chase up". Bone Marrow Donors needed
A number of constituents have contacted me about the work of the Antony Nolan Trust and asking me to publicise the need for donors . Please click here to register and learn more about their work.Congratulations Tina!In all the kerfuffle about the re-shuffle you may have missed the following. The new Leader of the House of Lords is our own Baroness Tina Stowell of Beeston. Tina was brought up in the Rylands, and was educated at Chilwell Comprehensive and Broxtowe College. I'm a big fan of Baroness Stowell - so well done Tina. Her PPS (Private Parliamentary Secretary) is Sherwood MP, Mark Spencer who is hugely talented and a good friend. I was sad to see Ken Clarke leave Government; my political hero remains a "Big Beast" in British Politics - out but not down!
Thank you to everyone who contacted me following my promotion in the Ministry of Defence.
