Broxtowe Cabinet backs “Core Strategy”
I attended last night’s Cabinet meeting where Labour and Lib Dem members voted for the “Core Strategy” with the Conservative members voting against. The document details a housing target of 6,105 (which in my opinion is an acceptance of that target), argues why the target is justified, identifies various sites and allows 3,000 houses on Green Belt land.
You can read the document by clicking here and it is a long scroll down to a lengthy document.
I would urge people in Toton who oppose the plans to build 800 homes on Green Belt land opposite the tram works to look at the top of page 76 and keep on reading. They may share my view that whatever they have been told the land at Toton remains as vulnerable as ever. It is also my opinion that this section of the document makes Field Farm a “dead cert” for development which is profoundly disappointing and quite wrong in my opinion.
The “Core Strategy” will now be debated on Wednesday May 16 when the entire Council meet.
In a letter I wrote to all Councillors and which I enclosed in my “Save Our Green Belt” newsletter I said:
The Government has also made clear there are transitional arrangements and has set them out in paragraphs 214 and 215 of the NPPF.
"For 12 months from the day of publication, decision-takers may continue to give full weight to relevant policies adopted since 2004 even if there is a limited degree of conflict with this Framework"
My understanding is that Broxtowe can accordingly rely on its existing policies and Local Plan for what is now eleven months; in short there is no need to rush into accepting the Core Strategy.
Broxtowe’s current Local Plan was adopted in September 2004 but not under a particular Act which came into force in July 2004. Therefore our Local Plan is not covered by this provision which is unfortunate. I am happy to set the record straight.
